Program Overview

This Introduction to Arts & Health provides a practical overview of how the arts have been used to support health outcomes for youth and older adults as well as in the context of workplace mental health and to support community wellbeing post-conflict. 
The course is designed for artists, health practitioners, educators, advocates and administrators of cultural and health organizations who are interested in expanding their knowledge of the arts and health and developing their professional skills and network. 

Key Learning Outcomes

Through a combination of theory, hands-on learning, and local and international case examples, participants will learn about the history of the field, current research, and discover opportunities to integrate the arts in existing care programs and/or a health and wellbeing orientation in their cultural programs.

During the course, attendees will: 

  • Learn about the history and development of the arts & health field
  • Explore key concepts and definitions in the field 
  • Examine past and current programming through the lens of arts and health research and practice 
  • Experience culturally-relevant approaches to arts and health practice with a focus on youth mental health, creative ageing, staff wellbeing, and arts in community healing post-conflict. 

Course Details & Application

The course was developed by the Jameel Arts & Health Lab, in collaboration with Hayy Jameel. The course will take place from 9am - 1pm from December 1st - 4, 2024 at Hayy Jameel in Jeddah. Participants who attend the full program will be given a certificate of completion from the Jameel Arts & Health Lab and NYU Steinhardt. 

Reserve your place by completing the online application. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis and will be closed once the course reaches capacity.
